Morning Basket

For the longest time I didn't know what the heck a "morning basket" was. I could never figure out exactly what it was supposed to look like. Then it dawned on me...it's a basket that you store books in to read in the morning. Super simple, right? (This is where you laugh at my awkward attempt at humor. Haha!)

Anyway! I got a basket from good ol' Target and put our Bible, Bible storybook, catechism, Bible verse cards, history read-aloud, and fun read-aloud into it.

So here's the typed version of what we do almost everyday. We do not do everything everyday. My boys are not at the point, yet, where they can sit still to do everything everyday. We just do what we can with however long their attention spans hold out. *These are not affiliate links.*

1. Psalm and Proverb. We read a Psalm--I just keep track of which one we read--and a Proverb that corresponds to the day's date.

2. The Biggest Story Bible Storybook. I read them a chapter a day after we read or Psalm and Proverb. Depending on how their attention spans are, we will read the corresponding Bible passage.

3. The New City Catechism. This comes in a curriculum or you can buy the "teacher" book and kids books separately. These are the links to Amazon, but you can also order it from Christianbook.com. The curriculum is more for a school or co-op setting or if you're looking for a fun, quick, and easy Bible curriculum.

4. Bible Verse Cards are from Arrows & Applesauce. I have basically her whole shop and my boys love them. It takes a bit of prep time, but I enjoy making things. You can sign up for her email newsletter and she will send you a code for free printables!

5. The Story of the World is our history read-aloud. It's story-like instead of textbook-like and it makes it fun for my boys. We haven't delved into history too much since they're just not quite into it yet, but we're getting there. We are currently doing Volume 1: Ancient Times. You can also purchase the whole, 4 volume set here

5. Creation to Babel is something I am going to incorporate as we get more into science. The chapters themselves are pretty long, but I plan to break it down into multiple days going over one chapter instead of a chapter a day.

6. Poetry Favorites for Kindergarten. This comes from Abeka and can be bought with a student kit or by itself. The poems are short, sweet, and fun. My plan is to try to memorize one a week and have the boys say it to their dad at the end of the week. Wish me luck! Haha!

7. A fun read-aloud. This differs depending on their interests or what I think they would enjoy at the time.

So there ya go! That's currently what we do. I might decide to change it between now and however long it takes you to find this blog. Haha! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at raisingmightycedars@outlook.com.
