When it comes to Bible study resources, I'm a minimalist. In almost no other area of my life am I a minimalist, but this is the exception.
But I still get asked a lot what I use to study.
So here ya go!
1. The MacArthur Bible Commentary (Here) This is honestly the only commentary that I own. Commentaries can be a slippery slope. I strongly encourage trying to figure out a passage on your own by cross-referencing before diving into a commentary. Only because commentaries are written by fallible men and it's tempting to take what they say as fact. So take them with a grain of salt and only use when needed. :) (Once again, this is my opinion. I am in no way condemning anyone for using a commentary to help them understand!)
2. The New Inductive Study Bible (ESV) (Here) Study Bibles are another great tool. The extra notes are great. Just remember that they're not the Word. They are mans interpretation. And I've lugged a study Bible around before and definitely prefer something smaller when sitting in church. Haha!
3. Other translations (Usually KJV, NKJV, and NASB) I grew up using NKJV and memorized most scripture in NKJV or KJV because they have a poetic flow and are easier to memorize than some of the newer translations. Over the last few years, I've switched to ESV, but still have a soft spot for my NKJV that was my first "big girl" Bible.
4. Bible Dictionary & Concordance from Castle Books (I found it at Books-A-Million for $10) I think you can also find it on Amazon, but when I looked it was sold out, so I didn't add the link.
5. Vine's Complete Expository Dictionary (Here) Y'all, I ordered this one and the Strong's with a gift card from Amazon that I got for Christmas. Am I a nerd or what?!
6. The New Strong's Expanded Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible (Here) This is probably one of the best concordances out there.
7. The Daily Grace Co. Handbooks -- The Bible Handbook, The Theology Handbook, The Bible Themes Handbook *(Here) If you have known me for any length of time, you know that The Daily Grace Co. is one of my favorites! I linked the Handbook set, but you can also purchase them separately.
That's pretty much it! Time to study is hard nowadays, but it fills my soul when I do get to sit down and really dive into the Word. But also take heart, friends! Even prioritizing 5 minutes a day to just pray and maybe read a Psalm or Proverbs is still better than nothing at all.
